BIO

Tina B started her career formally as a member of Rockers Revenge (remember their smash UK hit-a remake of Eddy Grant’s “Walking on Sunshine”, recently remixed by Groove Armada?), after debuting with Afrika Bambaataa and the Jazzy Five on the first ever record on Tommy Boy, “Jazzy Sensation.” She went on to record for Elektra records (penning with legendary producer Arthur Baker the underground hip-hop classic “Honey to a Bee”), for Arthur Baker’s Criminal Records in NYC (releasing the club classics, “January February” and “Miracles Explode”) and for A&M Records (her single “Bodyguard”, co-written with David Cole of C&C Music Factory and produced by David and Arthur Baker, was a dance hit in the US, with a video directed by Beastie Boy Adam Yauch). Tina B has provided supportive vocals for artists as diverse as Imagination, Jimmy Cliff, Steve Van Zandt (doubling as member of his Disciples of Soul band and the supergroup “Artists United Against Apartheid”), Carly Simon, Madonna, Al Green, Freeze, U2 and Bruce Springsteen. She has also penned and performed on songs for an amazing array of top talent including Jeff Beck, Ian Hunter, Neneh, Jennifer Holiday and Tevin Campbell (featured on his platinum debut album), with her “Not Like Kissing You” reaching number one on the Canadian pop chart as covered by the West End Girls. Her songs and performances have been featured in such films as “The Goonies”, Harry Belafonte’s “Beat Street” and Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild.”

After “retiring” from the pop world in the mid-90’s, Tina started her opera studies in New York City with Maestro Vincent La Selva of the New York Grand Opera Company, performing in workshop performances of Puccini’s La Boheme (as both Mimi and Musetta) and Verdi’s Traviata (as Violetta). She has done classical/pop crossover recordings co-written with Tom Salta and produced by Verve artist and producer Philippe Saisse in New York and Nick Patrick (Russell Watson, Katherine Jenkins, Amici) in London. Ms. B studied for 15 years in London with acclaimed Welsh tenor, Jeffrey Talbot and now studies with the amazing Doctor Voice (https://www.drvoice.tv/).

Ms B made London her home base, in 2000, with a long-term residency at Bartok, a Mean Fiddler venue in Camden, performing "original” classical pop songs, as well as opera and art song classics. In 2002, a dance remix of “Si Mia Vita”, an original classical composition penned by Ms B, was released on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label as part of producer Arthur Baker’s dance compilation “Breakin”. Tina has performed Si Mia Vita on BBC Radio as well as on Lijne 4, Amsterdam’s hottest morning television show (not to mention at numerous weddings!). In 2007 she recorded an album of classical versions of soul songs produced by award winning producer Ray Hayden (http://opazmultimedia.com/stat.html). A DVD of her live show was filmed at London’s Zigfrid von Underbelly in 2007 (to view clips see www.youtube.com/tinabbaker). More recently she has collaborated with acclaimed jazz pianist Merv de Peyer (formerly of Cameo!) on a lullaby for children on the Baby Dance Along YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nrjg5M5_1qk).

Tina is now back in the US, working on a new solo record. And catch her with Rockers Revenge on tour, performing their hits as well as songs from their soon to be released LP, alongside the recently released "On a Mission" on Crosstown Rebels (https://www.decodedmagazine.com/arthur-baker-reunites-with-rockers-revenge-to-release-on-a-mission-on-crosstown-rebels/) and What about the People on Baked Records (https://www.traxsource.com/title/1116282/what-about-the-people-full-intention-mixes).
